Healthy Steps To Truly Enjoy Your Hot Tub Nights
Sitting in a steamy hot tub under a canopy of stars is one of life’s greatest pleasures. A regular soak in a hot tub alleviates muscle aches and fatigue. Soaking in a hot tub has also been shown to promote a sound night’s rest and calm the mind. Before enjoying a luxurious and relaxing soak in your hot tub, it is important to take some basic healthy steps, in order to truly enjoy your hot tub nights in a safe and relaxing manner.
Temperature
If you are planning on soaking in your spa for an extended period of time, you may want to set the temperature at an appropriate level. Generally speaking, most hot tub owners set the thermostat between 98 and 104 degrees Fahrenheit. 104 degrees is definitely on the high side and will quickly melt the tension out of your muscles, but you may start to feel flushed. If you plan on staying in the hot tub for longer than fifteen or twenty minutes, you may want to set the temperature a bit lower, say 100 or 101 degrees.
Staying Hydrated
One of the keys to truly enjoying your hot tub nights in a healthy manner, is to stay well hydrated. As the water raises your core body temperature, your body will naturally perspire. In order to replace the water you are losing while soaking in the spa, sipping a cool glass of ice water with a splash of lemon juice will cool you off, hydrate you and promote alkalinity in your body, all at the same time. This will prevent you from developing a headache and feeling fatigued from dehydration after you soak in the tub.
Monitoring the Length of Time in the Hot Tub
By limiting the length of time you stay in the hot tub, you will prevent overheating. If you choose to soak longer than fifteen minutes in your whirlpool, taking periodic breaks, drinking some water, and sitting on the cool-down seat or side of the tub while you cool off, will allow most people to stay in their spa for two or three rounds of fifteen minutes each.
These are some healthy steps to take in order to truly enjoy your evenings in the hot tub. By keeping the water temperature at a moderate level, remembering to drink an adequate amount of water and taking periodic breaks to cool off, you will be able to truly enjoy your time soaking in your spa. Your time in your hot tub will also help to revive and refresh you.
